DONALD H. HELM

 

     Donald Henry Helm received his crown of life Thursday, Nov. 28, 2024, at the age of 96.

     Preceding Donnie in death were his parents, Henry and Clara (Garbisch) Helm, and a sister, Elaine (Sam) Seefeldt.

     He is survived by a brother, Roger (Caroline) Helm, nieces, nephews, cousins and his community.

     Donnie was born on the family farm west of Granton Aug. 30, 1928, where he lived and graduated. Donnie served in the United States Army during the Korean War.  Donnie worked as a butcher and welder after returning to Granton, where he assisted Roger along with their dad on the family farm.  Eventually he went to work for Nelson muffler for many years. Donnie, in his youth, loved going to dances, roller skating, deer hunting and fishing.  He was a member of the Granton Rotary and Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church.  Donnie will be remembered for his sense of humor, kind smile and quick wit.  He learned how to use a microwave at the age of 94 and took his first “selfie” at the age of 95.  Donnie loved sports, life and a good bowl of Chili.

     A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2024, at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Granton, WI.  Pastor Daniel Schoessow will officiate. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday morning prior to the service at the church. Military rites will be accorded by the Neillsville Veteran’s Council. Interment will be in the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery.

 

     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for designation at a later date.
